Background
Emu is the daughter of the owner of Phoenix Wonderland, and grew up watching shows in the park. After seeing Tsukasa fail his audition, she hires him, along with Nene and Rui, to return the dilapidated Wonder Stage to its former glory. Emu wants to perform on the small Wonder Stage and keep it alive, as it was her late grandfather's favorite stage. She was inspired to make others smile by her grandfather, whom she greatly looks up to, though he passed two years before the main story.

She is classmates with Mochizuki Honami in Class 1-B of Miyamasuzaka Girls’ Academy.

Appearance

Emu is a short girl with big sparkly pink eyes and pink hair cut into a short, messy bob.

Unit Outfit

Her show outfit consists of a puffy round dress with tied bright ribbons of many sizes along the bottom edge. She wears a similar tied ribbon in her hair, down the front of the outfit, and on her shoes. Her arms have poofy little detached sleeves that look like designful drops of candy, a white opera glove on her left arm and a bracelet on her right wrist. She has mismatched thigh-high socks, with pink & white candy cane stripes on her left leg and plain white on her right. On the very bottom of her left leg where her heeled shoe meets her ankle, she wears a small, bright cyan "x". The top of her dress contains short pieces of lace that flow out onto the skirt of her expressive pink dress. In the offical image for her unit outfit, she is holding a white bowl with a yellow, pink and purple design and yellow ruffles on the side; the festive bowl holds round, colorful wrapped candies.

School Uniform

She wears the grey-and-white standard uniform for her school, with a colorful pink cardigan riddled with stickers and a badge; a design she proudly came up with herself.

Casual

Her casual outfit consists of a puffy pink jacket (also covered stickers and a badge or two), a yellow shirt, and blue overalls with gold button going down the front, followed by a pair of tennis shoes.

Personality

With a cheerful and somewhat naive personality, Emu is highly impulsive, acting on every idea that she comes up with, with a tendency to drag people around her into her plans. Emu has established her own personal catchphrase, "Wonderhoy!☆", which she uses as a way to motivate herself. She uses the catchphrase frequently, more often than not shouting it out after most of her sentences. When she's with others, she encourages and sometimes pushes them to shout it alongside her, possibly for the purpose of trying to motivate them with it. However, when Emu is in the presence of her brothers, she seems to tone down her upbeat personality, becoming much calmer, which is likely an effect of her brothers' discouragement towards her. Her room is a reflection of her upbeat attitude, a mess of colors and patterns that the excited girl sees as representing happiness.

Though at first she is quick to disregard her own insecurities in favour of trying to put on a smile at all times, as she becomes closer with her bandmates, she starts to become more comfortable with them. Having found a group of people that share her goal of restoring the park to its' former glory, Emu expresses extreme gratitude for her friends and their support. Eventually she asserts that the group is one of the most important things to her, trusting them enough to finally open up about the impact her brothers' negativity has had, crying to her friends as she lets her feelings out.

Emu also seems to have a keen intuition when it comes to the sincerity of a person's expressions, though she doesn't seem to be fully aware of it. This is shown in her first encounter with Mafuyu, whom she meets through the Sports Festival. Upon meeting, Emu is quick to become terrified of Mafuyu when she realises her smile does not seem to be genuine, noting that although Mafuyu is smiling on the outside, it doesn't feel "right".

Etymology

Otori (鳳) means "phoenix".

Emu (えむ) means "smile".
